Aztec was written by an Ontario Land Surveyor (Canada) in order to fill a perceived void in COGO software. Modern COGO programs are, for the most part, CAD based. This means that they can be very powerful tools but, sadly, it also means that it can take a long time to learn how to use them. And, if you do not use this type of software regularly, then your skills will get rusty.
Aztec is meant to be intuitive to use. In the words of a client, if you have ever done calcs, then you can use Aztec.
Aztec can be used to do all the calcs for your business; as the owner of a small land surveying business, it has worked well for me for 21 years. Or you can use it if you only occasionally want to do some calcs, and just want something that is easy to use. In addition, firms have purchased Aztec so that field crews can easily perform calculations in the office at the end of the day without having to use cumbersome data collector COGO software.
Aztec is also a useful training tool for students who want to learn how to do calcs.
